Mental illness

After reading this article on mental illness this has shown me that there are many different kinds of mental illness, and many people dealing with it differently. This article really showed how mental illness is shown in television is how people act on t.v. the same as it is in real life. In this article they also talk about how they need to respect how the mental illness is shown on a television show so they don’t upset/mock someone has this disability. A very important paragraph in the article was this “ Truthful portrayals of mental illness and its treatment may be getting better, but television still has a long way to go. Prime-time television overestimates the occurrence of violence in people with mental illness by a factor of 20, according to a 1997 study in the Journal of Community Psychology. Such portrayals have an effect, according to a 2002 study in the Journal of Mental Health Counseling. Researchers found a correlation between hours of television watched and intolerance toward people with mental health” (page 2, Brink) .
I think that is the most important paragraph because it talks about how mental illness is shown on television and how people react to it. In a way this sums up all the article, this article was about showing people more in depth about mental illness seen through television and how people receive it. I also think that this paragraph is important because there are some examples of studies shown, which gives you some data to back up what their saying.
